Cats sometimes appear in the most unexpected corners of the house or squeeze themselves into the most impossible places. We explain why this happens and show the winner in the category of unusual sleeping spots.

Does your pet also surprise you from time to time with its unusual quirks? One characteristic of cats is that they love to sleep in small, enclosed, tight, seemingly uncomfortable places. They also love heights and well-defined spaces. There is an explanation for everything!

Our pets sometimes hide in unusual places

Enclosed spaces are safe when cats go to sleep

When sleeping, everyone is more vulnerable, and in the wild, you cannot make the mistake of leaving yourself exposed to predators. While indoor cats no longer face such dangers, their instincts remain. Thus, many cats hide to sleep. Boxes, drawers, and the corners of scratching posts are excellent for this. The main thing is that the animal is hidden and protected.

As we have reported in an interesting experiment, sometimes it is enough for cats to feel the illusion of safety. So if you make a rectangle on the floor with tape, your cat will likely curl up in the middle of it. This, too, is driven by the desire for the safety described earlier.

If you want to please your cat, leave the empty cardboard box on the floor after shopping or unpacking a parcel. Similarly, your cat will almost certainly curl up in the shopping basket and have the sweetest dreams in these improvised beds. It is also worth getting a scratching post (or several). They offer excellent opportunities for sharpening claws, playing, and exercising, in addition to providing a peaceful sleep.

Cats also prefer to sleep in high places

Similarly, high places are safer, as they offer a good vantage point to keep an eye on the surroundings. Let’s not forget that our purring pets are not only prey but also predators themselves, making high places ideal for observing potential prey.

And now, here comes the promised video! As you can see, the cat is high up and has also found a rectangular object for itself. How comfortable a full bag of chips can be, we don’t know, but the cat has clearly found its spot on it.
