The animal wandered into a construction site, specifically into a rather prominent building. How a cat could cause such significant damage is detailed in the article. We’ll reveal that it could happen to you too.
isThe feline visited the city hall of Dokkum in the Netherlands, where construction work was underway. The cat caused significant damage, approximately €325,000 by meddling with a commonplace object in the building. Th curious creature allegedly managed to turn on a water faucet, which was then left running.
As it turned out, this was not the cat’s first visit to the site. The workers had seen it multiple times but, being unable to catch it, decided to lock it inside the building. This is where the trouble began!
The workers did not notice in time that water was flowing from the faucet, resulting in significant damage: parts of the walls and floor had to be replaced due to water damage. The damage caused by the cat amounted to 325,000 euros, which was fortunately covered by insurance, as announced by the city’s mayor, Bert Koonstra.
Since the cat’s guilt has not been proven, we believe it is entitled to the presumption of innocence. However, it’s worth mentioning that our pets are indeed very clever. So it’s possible they might learn to turn on water faucets at home. This is especially true because cats love running, fresh water; some cats even prefer drinking from the faucet rather than their bowl.
Due to their curiosity and ingenuity, you need to be very careful about where they stick their whiskers and what you leave out in the house. Pay special attention to induction cooktops, as a cat jumping onto a still-hot surface can burn itself. Additionally, if the cooktop does not have a safety lock, they can easily turn it on with their paws. We have reported several fires caused by this issue.
