Many people prefer cats to dogs because cats are relatively easy to care for, as they keep themselves busy. Well, in fact, your cat may be bored too. Here are some of the signs that might indicate this.
Because cats sleep an average of 15 hours a day, many people think they don’t actually have time to be bored. Of course, it’s true that these animals are independent and nap a lot, but in reality, even if they don’t always seem to, they love company. And if they are not exposed to external stimuli, they may well get bored. Here are some of the signs that this might be the case.
One of the main behaviours of a bored cat is excessive grooming. Sometimes to the point of creating bald patches on its own fur. This leads to irritation, which causes it to lick himself further, creating a never-ending cycle. If you experience this, consider spending a little more time with your cat.
It’s not just people who eat too much when they’re bored. If your cat is bored, she may eat more than usual to keep itself occupied during its boring moments. If this situation persists for a prolonged period of time, it may also start to put on a lot of weight, which will only make it even more unhealthy.
In contrast, some bored cats do the exact opposite and choose to ignore their food. It may lose interest in things other than food, which it normally enjoys. This is a very serious concern.
One of the most dangerous forms of boredom is when a kitty starts to display destructive behaviour. This means scratching furniture, climbing curtains, knocking things over, and even terrorising the animals around it. This is not out of malice, nor is it revenge, but more likely just boredom.
It can also be a sign of boredom if your cat stops using the litter box and starts doing its business in other parts of the house. It is likely to be trying to get its owner’s attention by refusing to use the litter box.
If you’ve noticed the following signs in your own cat, it’s likely that it’s very bored and needs a bit more attention. Try to spend more quality time with it. And when you leave it alone, it’s a good idea to leave behind toys or feeding bowls, puzzles that it needs a bit of skill to use, so it can play with them in your absence.
