We could easily call cats Mother Nature's favorites. They have managed to gain human support while largely retaining their independence, and they are such efficient hunters that they essentially don't need us at all.

Cats possess incredible, almost otherworldly abilities that are undoubtedly admirable. Today, we’ve compiled a few of the lesser-known ones. Don’t be surprised if you feel like building a small shrine for them to worship them in awe!

It’s entirely possible that a head like this is filled with thoughts of world domination

1.) As if They Were Designed to Predict the Weather

Cat fur attracts static electricity, allowing them to sense its buildup in the air before major storms. That’s why they groom themselves more than usual at such times; they’re trying to rid themselves of the electricity.

Their inner ears are highly sensitive to changes in air pressure, which can predict downpours. And if that weren’t enough, their keen sense of smell allows them to detect rain and lightning. Because of this, sailors kept cats on ships not only for pest control but also as weather forecasters by observing their behavior.

2.) The Greatest Manipulators on Earth

And if you’re shaking your head thinking this can’t be true, you’ve fallen victim to them too! A study by the University of Sussex proved that cats have developed a special purr to manipulate their owners. We thought they only adjusted their meows to us until now!

This type of purring occurs at a much higher frequency, which penetrates the human brain like an urgent request, encouraging care from anyone. It even reminds some people of a baby’s cry. To top it off, it also affects people who have never owned a cat. Impressive, right?

3.) They Control Us with Their Appearance

We said they were Mother Nature’s favorites… And this is also evident in how they skillfully exploit the benefits of “pretty privilege.” This essentially means that their large eyes, big heads, and round foreheads subconsciously remind us of babies, instantly triggering our maternal and protective instincts.

For example, slow blinking releases oxytocin in both them and us; this hormone is partly responsible for the deep connection between a mother and her child. In light of this, it’s not surprising that roughly 50% of internet traffic is cat-related content.

4.) A Complete Radar System Grows from Their Faces

With the help of those adorable whiskers, they sense changes in air currents, allowing them to determine the size, shape, and speed of objects nearby. This is why blind cats can move so confidently in their surroundings.

Their whiskers can even determine which direction the prey they’re stalking will move in, reducing the chance of escape. Astonishingly, they also have sensors around their wrists that help them ascertain whether their prey is truly dead or just playing dead. And there you have it, the perfect killing machine!
