cA recent incident on Long Island involved an adorable but terrified kitten who fell into a more than 9-metre deep drain. To make matters worse, the hatch was blocked by a two-ton concrete slab. Footage was also taken of how the cat was rescued.

The little animal was very frightened

They worked through the night

According to local news reports, the distressed animal was alerted by its “screaming” – luckily for him. It was the desperate meowing that alerted them to the cat trapped in the depths. The police, as well as staff from Strong Island Animal Rescue, rushed to the scene to help.

The conditions made the rescue operation very difficult, not only because of the heavy concrete but also because of the great depth. Fortunately, the animal-friendly uniformed officers and animal welfare workers did not give up. They worked through the night to move the cover and then manage to bring the kitten to the surface.

The commendable teamwork was also recorded:

The rescued cat will be adopted

This lucky black and white tomcat eventually made it out safely, as confirmed by subsequent veterinary examinations. The charity has taken the lucky kitten – who hopefully hasn’t used up any of his nine lives – and are keen to find him an adopter.
